Rewards for the Journey

Today’s Reading: Psalm 57-59, Romans 4

Today’s Reflection:  Psalm 58:11   So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.

TRULY there is a reward for the righteous!  Here, the word “reward” means fruit, produce, and/or offspring.  There are two things about this reward that we need to be sure we understand from our text.  First, it most certainly WILL come to the righteous!  And second, our great Judge is doing His judging “in the earth”.

Why is this significant?  It is significant because we need not think that ALL of God’s judgements are reserved for the eternal realm after which our work on Earth is done.  Do you see this?  Our judge, who judges justly and righteously, ensures that “in the earth” the righteous receive a reward.  That is, we do not need only expect rewards in Heaven, for if we did not have graces and mercies on this side of Heaven, we would be of all people most miserable.

But look at His graciousness, to watch over the affairs of His people, and to reserve rewards for the here and now along our journey to sustain us and to bless us on our journey homeward!  For who could survive this veil of tears without His mercies which are new every day?

Does He not “reward” you as you serve Him?  Does He not give you strength; sustain you; give you peace; provide for you; protect you; employ you in His services, and reward you accordingly?  Don’t get me wrong; in this world we shall have tribulation, but to that Jesus simply said that we should be of good cheer, because He had already overcome the world.  This means that the difficulties of this life will not prevail over the overcoming power of Christ in us, Who is the hope of our glory!

Glory to God, He daily loadeth us with benefits!  The things we will receive in Heaven will be for use in the eternal, but thanks be to God which giveth us victory in the here and now!  For we need that overcoming power NOW, and not then when it’s all made better by crossing over.

I hope you hear this word loud and clear; God plans to reward your service to Him so as to bless you and sustain you in your journey, right here and right now.  The burdens may be tough, but our God is tougher!  The mountains may be high, but our God is higher!  The waters may be deep, but our God walks on water!  And the more we understand His rewards program, we understand that in Him dwells all the rewards we need!
