Some things I'm not supposed to say!

Today’s Reading: 1 Chron. 28-29, John 9:24-41

Today’s Reflection: 1 Chron. 29:12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

I grew up poor. Not only that, I grew up around a lot of other people who were probably just as poor as my family was. Furthermore, when you don’t have a lot of money, you often dwell on truths in the Bible that you best relate to from your own perspective.
Namely, any verse that had a warning against riches or wealth of this world was highlighted in our minds and over-emphasized to our own detriment.

Now don’t get me wrong; we ought to take heed to ALL the verses that warn us against greed, the abuse of money, the theft of money, the love of money, or the enslavement to money, but is that all the Bible has to say about it?

Well, to the one who only sees that side of the coin, in their own mind, they (like me) might not have really even noticed or paid much attention to the fact that the money subject in fact does have two sides to its coin in the Bible.

Growing up and looking at life through what I’d like to call a poverty mindset, all I ever permitted myself to look at for a long time was the “Tails” side of this coin. BUT, there IS a “Heads” side to consider.

We can start with this verse. “Both riches and honour come of thee…” So let’s get this straight; RICHES and HONOUR come of God! I know I’m not supposed to say that, but don’t fault me…I’m just quoting right out of the King James Bible!!

You see, the truth is, God owns EVERYTHING. In fact, the verse goes on to teach us that all of the power to give wealth is in HIS hand. Furthermore, we learn that He has enough wealth “to give strength unto all.”

Did you catch that? In God’s hand is the ability to give riches, honour, and strength to ALL. That’s EVERYONE. In other words, God has no shortage on supply. The shortage lies in our faith!

Now, before you tune me out, understand this. God doesn’t just pass out riches, honour, and strength like cheap candy. No, but He does reserve enough for anyone who needs what HE has to accomplish HIS will for their life!!

So, to obtain what you need for what God has called you to, you must learn to place your faith and trust in HIM, and not just in STUFF. God will not give you wealth just for you to set it up as an idol for you to trust in place of HIM. Selah.
