Day 1 (Vol. 2) (Category: Spiritual Growth)

Today’s Reading: Genesis 1-3, Matthew 1

Today’s Reflection: Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

The greatest gift God has ever given His creation is the seed. Let us look quickly at the origin of the seed. God spoke a word, and from that word formed a seed capable of being preserved, planted, productive, and pro-creative all the way to the end of time as we know it. Why? Because it is God’s way of teaching us that when we receive His Word (that is, accept Jesus Christ His Son as our Lord and Savior), we receive all in one moment everything we need to be preserved, planted, productive, and pro-creative as children of God! However, it is just hard to see all of that contained in one small seed, isn’t it? I believe that it would be beneficial to us all in our journey with God not to just look at ourselves in our current level of development, for if we only consider where we are today, we will be blinded to the bigger picture. While we are immature and still developing, we are often blinded by our limitations and our inabilities. We often forget that these things take time, and that we need not worry about handling matters too great for us too quickly. For many, the only reason they are not productive or pro-creative in their faith is because they have not been given enough time to grow and mature in their walk with Christ as of yet. Many young Christians especially get discouraged rather quickly because they are too hard on themselves for tripping and falling when they feel they should be walking or running. Do not get me wrong here; we are not to excuse ourselves from excelling in our walk with Christ! However, we should be able to recognize when the only reason we are not excelling is because we’ve got some growing to do. If we can be as patient with ourselves as God is with us, we would not give up on ourselves so easily! In light of that, my encouragement for you today is this; thank God for any progress you have made at all in growing in your faith, and build on that growth one day at a time. In time, you will discover that you are no longer an adolescent or teenager any more, but a fully mature adult in the faith, fully capable of being productive in and for the Kingdom of God! You won’t be perfect, but you will know it when you’re not, and make adjustments accordingly.
